Carn directed by Jeff le Bars Review
A boy finds himself lost in a
snowstorm but meets a wolf. The wolf makes the boy an offer: he may take the
wolf’s life and use their fur if he takes care of the wolf’s pups. Will the boy
agree too or not and what will be the consequences of his actions?
This gorgeously animated short has
a very distinct style to it and at the same time it has a weight to it. Carn
manages to delve into the darkest corners of the human psyche. In general, it
is a well-crafted short film animated in France.
Despite a 5 minute run time the
film manages to reach a satisfying (though admittedly dark) conclusion. The
pacing is next to perfect and the characters are simultaneously sympathetic and
alien to the viewer. All-in-all Carn is a very nicely done short film well
worth the viewer’s time.
